What Is The Importance Of National Smart Grant?

The National Science and Mathematics approach to maintain Talent Grant is federally financed scheme managed by Federal Student Aid, which is an organization of U.S. Department of Education.

The Grant popularly known as National Smart Grant is provided to students on basis of their academic achievements. This grant is made available to undergraduate students during their third and fourth years who have eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant and who are pursuing the major in physical sciences, or life sciences, or computer sciences, or engineering, or technology, or mathematics, or psychology, or natural resources and conservation, or foreign language ascertained crucial for national security.

It is very necessary on the part of students to take an admission in the course but first they have to finish their degree program. In order to furnish prerequisites of the intended eligible major and also have to maintain a score of aggregate GPA of minimum 3.0 in the course required for the major. This grant is given in addition to the Pell Grant received by students. Like any other grant this grant also doesn't have to be pay back.

Under National SMART Grant, student can avail $4000 in third and fourth years of undergraduate study but it is also mentioned that the combined amount of SMART Grant and Pell Grant should not surmount the total cost of student's attendance.

If qualifying students' number is large enough such that total money of the grant exceeds the funds allocated for the year, then the amount of grant to be given to each eligible student will be curtailed proportionally.

For the grant, your acceptability is a residency of USA, and you must be suitable for Pell Grant during the year of getting this grant. Moreover you must be registered in the third or fourth year of an undergraduate degree course in the institution as a regular student.

You should have adopted physical sciences, or life sciences, or computer sciences, or engineering, or technology, or mathematics, or psychology, or natural resources and conservation, or crucial foreign language as major subjects. Besides most important of all, you must have a GPA score of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

There are other qualifying necessities too but they will be in force from 1st July 2009 and you can see the Guide to Federal Student Aid produced by Federal Student Aid, U.S. Department of Education for the year 2009-10.
