Win College Scholarships With These 5 Tips

You do not have to be student body president and have a great G.P.A. to win college scholarships. To win college scholarships the key is to NOT do what most other applicants ARE doing. With these tips, average students can win scholarships and get free money for college.

Online scholarship searches are great, but my first tip is to NOT just use the internet to find your scholarships. There are so many other great sources out there where you will find a ton of scholarships that many other students will never find. As a result, you will improve your chances of winning right from the start! It's okay to use online scholarship searches, just don't make them your only method of finding scholarships to apply for.

Should you apply for big or little scholarships? The next tip for winning scholarships is to apply for every scholarship that you qualify for. Don't just apply for the big ones. The little ones (for example, $500) do add up if you win several of them! Apply for big and little scholarships and do not let the amount to be won become the deciding factor.

Don't ever ignore need-based scholarship opportunities. These are scholarships that determine if you qualify to apply for their scholarship award based on the total income of you and/or your parents. Surprisingly, some need-based scholarships use the income level of $100,000 or less to be considered for their scholarship! Don't be tempted to not apply for need-based scholarships, unless you truly do have an income level of under $100,000. You don't know the income level that each scholarship requires unless it is clearly stated in the applications rules. If you search for and cannot find the income requirement in the rules and you honestly need the aid, you can apply for the need-based scholarships.

Use community service hours and your experiences with helping others as much as you can on your scholarship applications. Judges truly love students who have given their time freely to volunteer in their communities. You may have thought that helping your little brother's tee ball team was just for fun, but to a scholarship judge it counts as community service hours. Also, when you volunteer it gives you more to write about when you answer the popular essay question: Tell us what you have done to help society. Don't panic if you don't have many community service hours. It's never too late to start and you can get in a lot of hours if you start NOW.

I know I said five, but I have to admit that the best tip on how to win free money for college is to learn the method that makes your scholarship applications stand out and get noticed by the judges. The method I developed helped my own son win over $20,000 in private scholarships. I had judges personally tell me that his application package was impressive that they knew right away he was going to get picked for their award.
