How To Get College Grants In This Depression

by Mark S. Greenglass Ph.D.

Today Getting College Grants is much harder then it was a few years ago when the economy was booming. But don't despair, with the Obama administration in power there should not be a decrease in college grants. Of course with this downturn in the economy Non-Profit Organizations will very likely cut the number of college grants. The major problem regarding college grants and the economy is that since more parents are out of work, they smiply cannot afford to pay for their college bound students and this has lead to many more students applying for Financial Aid.

There is also another problem, the old "Working Your Way Though College" deal is not working quite as well today. Because there are less jobs for college students and this means less money can go for their student loans and on-campus living cost. So more college students have less money and this in turn is adding to the numbers of grant seekers.

When you look at the figures today it clearly shows the the number of student who applied for The Free Application for Student Aid rose to 10.4% in 2008 from 1.4 Million in 2007. The great news is that The College Board has stated it will be increasing their Financial Aid to future college students up to $143 Billion Dollars. This is good but remember there will be more students viving for these grants so learning a grant getting tip here or there could put you ahead the the pack.

Your chances of Getting College Grants in This Recession can increase if you take some simple steps. First always strive to do your best and get good grades in Grammer School, Middle School and most importantly High School. By the time you graduate High School having a much higher grade point average will not only get you accepted in more and better colleges, but you would have increased your chances of getting those scholarships and grants that will pay for it all.

By applying to not only state colleges but also private universities you will give yourself a much larger chance of Getting College Grants In This Recession. In fact apply to as many colleges as you can, this investment in postage stamps will be well worth it. Since financial aid is important to you this method will not only give you a good chance of getting accepted into several colleges you like, you can also hand pick the one with the best Financial Aid. So you could truly have your cake and eat it too, so start sending out those applications today!

The top rated universities have very expensive tuitions of course, but you should not be discouraged by this and sent your applications to them all. In fact these top rated schools are the ones that give out much larger grants. By the way, Merit Aid from private schools may be your college money answer if you don't get full college financial aid.

Finally, if you want to increase your chances of obtaining College Grants In This Recession, you should make sure that all the paperwork and documentation needed for your application are in place. More often then not, Grant Institutions ask for personal ID and proof of registration in the college where you will study.

One last tip, just because you are enrolled in a college at this time, don't think your grant getting days are over. Your college studies will be four years and maybe more if you decide to go for a Masters or Doctorate. We are talking big money here, so don't be foolish and keep applying for grants untill the last day you are in school. (c) 2009 Mark S. Greenglass Ph.D.
