Dont pay for a 'free scholarship!'By Samuel Stambler But there are a lot of companies whose motto is: 'The scholarship will cost some money.' They offer Scholarships and charge a small fee, called 'application fee', 'entry fee' and so on ... Dont enter into such programs and dont pay! Do you know why? Because most probably this is a scam: They are not giving any Scholarships to anybody because they a) Only intend to get your money, and not grant the scholarship; b) They sign up the candidates for such an 'agreement' that nobody can fulfill; c) Accidentally (but always) the winner is their relative or friend. There are companies that claim that for a small fee: 'Theyll do all the work.' This means that they, instead of you, will do everything that has to be done to apply for a scholarship. They will fill out the forms, write assays, mail applications, get personal statements and so on and so forth. All this work takes many hours or even days. And they will do all this and almost for nothing? Come on! Dont pay! It is a scam. Many companies offer for some fee to 'search and research' for free scholarships information: 'You cant get this information anywhere else' they claim. Dont fall for this and dont pay! Usually you will not receive anything or will receive useless or, at the very best, commonly available information. All you need to know you can find free in your local library or the college website, or through a simple Google, (Yahoo, MSN ...) search. When you search the internet for scholarships information, almost every site you find does not immediately give you a list of available scholarship programs but first asks you to provide them with your name, address, phone number, email... Why? Some of them intend to flood your email box with sales pitch spam. So dont give them your primary email address. In conclusion, it is advisable to first investigate the company you are going to deal with: Is their address a real business address? Check out who they are and when they registered their web site. Try to find out if they have a business license... Good luck! About the Author: Samuel Stambler.
