Using the College Scholarship Service Profile to Get Scholarships

By Ian Koch

If you plan to start up a College or University education one of the first problems you have to address, is how to finance it. There are many sorts of financial aids for students not matter which education you plan to take or the school you consider to study at. In addition to Government grants there are a huge load of well known as well as less known scholarships to apply for. The College Scholarship Service Profile is otherwise called the CSS Profile. This is actually an application that is used for applying for the scholarships available in the institutions. This application is available with the College Board of the United States. You can get this application in the colleges that you wish to apply for scholarship. This application has a lot of columns to be filled up which is sure to give the institution to scrutinize the application for the scholarship easily. It gives a detailed look at the applying student's profile clearly so that the institution can decide whether to grant scholarship for that student or not.

The students financial status and that of the parents of the student are also revealed in the CSS Profile. This profile reaches the institution usually earlier than the FAFSA. This makes the institutions to make a decision on the scholarship even before they get the FAFSA. Financial aid decisions are made in the colleges that have early acceptance programs for the students admission. This decision is made quite before the New Year. The FAFSA is available only after the New Year. That is why the CSS profile is more useful for most of the institutions. After the student joins the college based on the CSS Profile they have to fill up the FAFSA which is the official financial aid application. The colleges would then make any adjustments if needed to the financial aid that was granted based on the CSS Profile.

The College Scholarship Service Profile can be filled up online on the College Boards website at https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/index.jsp. To complete this profile online you have to register with them online. You might need a credit card or a checking account to fill up and submit this profile to the College Board. The details of the colleges and institutions that use this CSS profile are also given in the College Boards website. A guide to fill up the form is also available online. This is the fastest way to get your profile submitted to the College Board.
