How to find a Nursing School Scholarship

By Andrew Bicknell

If you plan on or are currently attending nursing school then you know how difficult it can be to find the funding you need to pay for your school. One of the best ways to pay for nursing school is with a nursing school scholarship. The nice thing about scholarships is they are free. You get to pay for nursing school with someone else's money.

There are other ways to pay for nursing school but they normally cost you money either in the short term or the long term. In the short term you can pay for it yourself, directly out of pocket. While this can work if you have a lot of money saved or have a trust fund of some sort, chances are most of us dont have that kind of money just sitting around.

The long term payback is using student loans to pay for your nursing school education. Student loans work really well except for the payback portion when you are done with school. Once you finish school you have to start paying off your student loans and depending on how much you borrowed this can take quite a long time. The national average is around $19,000 owed on student loans by graduating seniors.

What kind of money are we talking about? The average cost of attending a nursing program in a four year public college is over $14,000 per year. If you decide to go the private university route that can cost you over $30,000 per year. And the cost of tuition just keeps going up year after year. In fact the cost of a public four year college education has gone up 202 percent over the last 22 years.

With the way the cost of nursing school keeps rising year after year it only makes sense to try and mitigate this cost as much as possible. The best way to do that is to apply for nursing school scholarships and use that free money to further your education.

There are many ways to find nursing school scholarships on the internet but one of the best is The Scholarship & Grant Guide.com. They have one of the largest searchable scholarship and grant databases on the internet today and chances are you may find one or more scholarships that fit your needs to start paying for your nursing degree for free.
